Cold Adaptation of a Mesophilic Subtilisin-like Protease by Laboratory Evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Enzymes isolated from organisms native to cold environments generally exhibit higher catalytic efficiency at low temperatures and greater thermosensitivity than their mesophilic counterparts.

Development of an improved Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis TAC125 strain for recombinant protein secretion at low temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: In a previous paper, we reported the accomplishment of a cold gene-expression system for the recombinant secretion of heterologous proteins in Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis TAC125.

Psychrophilic enzymes: strategies for cold-adaptation

open access: yesEssays in Biochemistry, 2023
Abstract Psychrophilic organisms thriving at near-zero temperatures synthesize cold-adapted enzymes to sustain cell metabolism. These enzymes have overcome the reduced molecular kinetic energy and increased viscosity inherent to their environment and maintained high catalytic rates by development of a diverse range of structural ...

Cloning, Expression, Characterization, and Antioxidant Protection of Glutaredoxin3 From Psychrophilic Bacterium Psychrobacter sp. ANT206

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Glutaredoxins (Grxs) are proteins that catalyze the glutathione (GSH)-dependent reduction of protein disulfides. In this study, a Grx-related gene (264 bp), encoding a Ps-Grx3, was cloned from Psychrobacter sp. ANT206.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Anti-biofilm activities from marine cold adapted bacteria against Staphylococci and Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Microbial biofilms have great negative impacts on the world’s economy and pose serious problems to industry, public health and medicine. The interest in the development of new approaches for the prevention and treatment of bacterial adhesion and biofilm ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
