Depositional and Hydrological Relationships Between Buried Dead Ice and the Active Layer in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica: A Study of Sediment Geochemistry and Cation Concentrations

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The McMurdo Dry Valleys, the largest ice‐free region in Antarctica, are home to a cold‐desert hydrologic system of glaciers, snowbanks, streams, and lakes. Freshwater is also stored as dead glacial ice, which is poorly constrained in terms of ion concentrations and interactions with both in situ and overlying sediments.

Sliding Mode Control in Aerospace Applications: A Survey

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sliding mode control (SMC) enjoys robustness to matched and unmatched (in the case of minimum phase input‐output dynamics) bounded perturbations, and finite time convergence. Second‐order and higher‐order sliding mode control systems (2‐SMC/HOSMC) retain all the advantages of sliding mode control, but in addition can be applied to systems of ...

Low Temperature Site‐Specific Pulsed Laser Annealing of MoS2

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The application of laser pulses, of extremely short duration, is investigated as a potential new method to modify the atomic structure of ultrathin 2D materials for use in the creation of future electrical devices. The process is efficient, offering a site‐specific functionality, where regions of an electronic device that only requires annealing is ...

Fully Compensated Ferrimagnetic Properties of (Cr,Fe)S Compound with a Pyrrhotite‐Type Structure

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Pyrrhotite‐type crystal structure of (Cr,Fe)S compound. The fabrication conditions for obtaining a single phase of the non‐equilibrium phase were optimized. The temperature dependence of the magnetization exhibits the typical behavior of compensated ferrimagnetism. A large magnetic coercivity of the (Cr,Fe)S compound.
