Cold controlled chemistry

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2008
Collisions of molecules in a thermal gas are difficult to control. Thermal motion randomizes molecular encounters and diminishes the effects of external radiation or static electromagnetic fields on intermolecular interactions. The effects of the thermal motion can be reduced by cooling molecular gases to low temperatures. At temperatures near or below

Microwave-Controlled Cold Chemistry

Physical Review Letters
Ion-molecule reactions proceed with highly rotational-state-specific rate coefficients and are amenable to stereodynamical control at low temperatures. We introduce a scheme to control cold ion-molecule chemistry with microwaves based on the coherent transfer of molecular rotational-state populations.

CHAPTER 10. Cold Ion Chemistry

2017
Studying chemical reactions at very low temperatures is of importance for the understanding of fundamental physical and chemical processes. At very low energies, collisions are dominated by only a few partial waves. Thus, studies in this regime allow the characterization of quantum effects which depend on the collisional angular momentum, e.g ...

The Chemistry of Cold Plasma

2016
Abstract This chapter focuses on the underlying chemistry that takes place in cold or nonthermal plasma. First, the primary electron-induced collision processes are identified for oxygen-nitrogen mixtures mainly at atmospheric pressure. Then the chemistry initiated by the species from these processes is described for the production of nitrogen oxides ...
