Molecular Cloud Evolution. I. Molecular Cloud and Thin Cold Neutral Medium Sheet Formation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2006
We discuss molecular cloud formation by large-scale supersonic compressions in the diffuse warm neutral medium (WNM). Initially, a shocked layer forms, and within it, a thin cold layer. An analytical model and high-resolution one-dimensional simulations predict the thermodynamic conditions in the cold layer.

Turbulent power spectrum in warm and cold neutral medium using the Galactic H i21 cm emission [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
Small-scale fluctuations of different tracers of the interstellar the medium can be used to study the nature of turbulence in astrophysical scales. Of these, the `continuum' emission traces the fluctuations integrated along the line of sight whereas, the spectral line tracers give the information along different velocity channels as well.

Cold Ironing Galvanic Corrosion Issues with Regard to a Shore-to-Ship Medium Voltage Connection

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Cold ironing refers to the usage of less polluting power supply sources to deliver electricity to the moored ship. Such a shore-to-ship system is used when the ship is at a port so the auxiliary combustion engines may be turned off.

The cold neutral phase of the interstellar medium in high redshift galaxies

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019
Abstract We present the results of spectroscopic analysis of seven new H2-bearing damped Ly- systems in redshift range z=2.5 − 3. These systems were originally selected from SDSS catalog using a direct search for H2 and followed up with X-SHOOTER spectrograph at 8-m Very Large Telescope observatory. We measured the column densities of HI,

An improved post-processing technique for automatic precipitation gauge time series [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2020
The unconditioned data retrieved from accumulating automated weighing precipitation gauges are inherently noisy due to the sensitivity of the instruments to mechanical and electrical interference. This noise, combined with diurnal oscillations and signal

Constraining of physical conditions in the cold neutral medium using HD/H2 relative abundance

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2020
Abstract We present constraints on physical conditions in diffuse HD/H2-bearing molecular clouds using measured HD/H2 column density ratio. We used recently published formalism that describes how this ratio changes with ultraviolet field intensity, number density and cosmic ray ionization rate. Out of them the most important parameter is

Tiny‐Scale Atomic Structure and the Cold Neutral Medium

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1997
We consider the tiny-scale atomic structure (TSAS) on scales of tens of astronomical units, which has been detected by 21 cm absorption lines against quasars with VLBI techniques, against pulsars with time variability and against close binary stars in optical interstellar lines. The TSAS is associated with ordinary cold neutral medium (the CNM).
