NEUTRAL HYDROGEN CLOUDS IN THE M81/M82 GROUP

open access: yesAstronomical Journal, 2008
We have observed a 3 degree x 3 degree area centered on the M81/M82 group of galaxies using the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) in a search for analogs to the High Velocity Clouds (HVCs) of neutral hydrogen found around our galaxy. The velocity range from -605 to -85 km/s and 25 to 1970 km/s was searched for HI clouds.

Neutral Hydrogen Clouds Near Early-Type Dwarf Galaxies of the Local Group [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomical Journal, 2006
Parkes neutral hydrogen 21 cm line (HI) observations of the surroundings of 9 early-type Local Group dwarfs are presented. We detected numerous HI clouds in the general direction of those dwarfs and these clouds are often offset from the optical center of the galaxies.

Blowing in the Milky Way Wind: Neutral Hydrogen Clouds Tracing the Galactic Nuclear Outflow [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2018
Abstract We present the results of a new sensitive survey of neutral hydrogen above and below the Galactic Center with the Green Bank Telescope. The observations extend up to Galactic latitude with an effective angular resolution of 9.′5 and an average rms brightness ...

High Velocity Neutral Hydrogen Clouds [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
A review is given of the observations of neutral hydrogen high velocity clouds (|ν| > 80 km s−1) in and near the Galaxy. The positive and negative clouds are seen to have different distributions in the sky, following roughly the velocity pattern of galactic rotation.

Compact Galactic Neutral Hydrogen Clouds in the GALFA-HI Survey

open access: yes, 2014
The more sensitive the observations, the more complex the gas in our Galaxy appears. Since the detection of neutral hydrogen in 1951, each new survey has revealed new structure. Using the GALFA-HI survey, we have discovered five populations of compact neutral hydrogen clouds.

Measurements of Magnetic Fields in Interstellar Clouds of Neutral Hydrogen

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 1969
A new series of measurements of the Zeeman splitting of 21-cm spectral lines has revealed strong (> 10−5 G) magnetic field effects in several neutral hydrogen clouds in the direction of HII regions. Low limits have been set to the line-of-sight field components in six other regions of space.

Anomalous Neutral Hydrogen Column Densities in Local Interstellar Medium Clouds*

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal
Abstract Analysis of high-resolution spectra of the hydrogen and deuterium Lyα lines provides measurements of interstellar neutral hydrogen column densities N(H i) to 113 stars within 50 pc of the Sun. Plots of N(H i) versus distance through the LIC, G, Mic, and other clouds in the local interstellar medium (LISM) show very interesting ...

Upper Limits on the Space Density of Intergalactic Neutral Hydrogen Clouds

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 1981
A survey in the 21 cm line of H I of 153 square degrees of sky out in a distance corresponding to 3000 km s/sup -1/ and with a limiting sensitivity of 3 x 10/sup 6/D/sup 2/ M/sub sun/ has failed to turn up any convincing detections that are unassociated with a visible counterpart.
