Extragalactic diffuse neutral hydrogen clouds - Probes of a hot intergalactic medium

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 1976
Extragalactic diffuse neutral hydrogen clouds constitute a probe of the intergalactic gas by both thermal and dynamical interaction with the surrounding medium. Clouds recently discovered by Mathewson et al. in the Sculptor group place stringent limits on the density and temperature of any intergalactic gas unless the clouds are very highly clumped ...

HIGH-VELOCITY CLOUDS

open access: yesAnnual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1997
High-velocity clouds (HVCs) consist of neutral hydrogen (HI) at velocities incompatible with a simple model of differential galactic rotation; in practice one uses \v(LSR)\ greater than or equal to 90 km/s to define HVCs.

Neutral hydrogen in nearby spiral galaxies holes and high velocity clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
In this thesis we have investigated the neutral hydrogen distributions and kinematics of three nearby, face-on spiral galaxies: M 101, NGC 6946 and NGC 628. In particular, we have searched for holes and high velocity gas.

Neutral Hydrogen in the Magellanic Clouds [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
We review observations of neutral atomic hydrogen (HI) in the Magellanic Clouds (MCs). Being the nearest gas-rich neighbours of the Milky Way the MCs give us an excellent opportunity to study in detail the structure and evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM) and the effect of interactions between galaxies.

Properties of Neutral Hydrogen Clouds [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
In the region +19° <b< +30°, 122° <l< 143°, 21-cm line profiles were analyzed into Gaussian components, and these components combined into clouds, by means of computerized procedures. Maps of some of the clouds so defined are presented, and their properties discussed. Many clouds are elongated and/or irregular in shape.

Interstellar neutral hydrogen at high velocities [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
For almost three decades neutral hydrogen moving at velocities unexplicable by galactic rotation has been observed. These so-called high-velocity clouds (IIVCs) have been invoked as evidence for infall of neutral gas to the galaxy, as manifestations of a
