Cold Atmospheric Plasma: A Promising Controller of Cancer Cell States

open access: yes, 2020
Rich in reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, cold atmospheric plasma has been shown to effectively control events critical to cancer progression; selectively inducing apoptosis, reducing tumor volume and vasculature, and halting metastasis by taking ...

Plasma-Derived Reactive Species Shape a Differentiation Profile in Human Monocytes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Background: Monocyte-derived macrophages are key regulators and producers of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS). Pre-clinical and clinical studies suggest that cold physical plasma may be beneficial in the treatment of inflammatory conditions

The Brachypodium distachyon cold-acclimated plasma membrane proteome is primed for stress resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In order to survive subzero temperatures, some plants undergo cold acclimation (CA) where low, nonfreezing temperatures, and/or shortened day lengths allow cold-hardening and survival during subsequent freeze events.

Non-Invasive Physical Plasma Generated by a Medical Argon Plasma Device Induces the Expression of Regenerative Factors in Human Gingival Keratinocytes, Fibroblasts, and Tissue Biopsies

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
After oral surgery, intraoral wound healing and tissue regeneration is an important factor for the success of the entire therapy. In recent years, non-invasive medical plasma (NIPP) has been shown to accelerate wound healing, which would be particularly ...

Corrosion performance of laser post-treated cold sprayed titanium coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The recent development of cold spray technology has made possible the deposition of highly reactive, oxygen sensitive materials, such as titanium, without significant chemical reaction of the powder, modificationof particle microstructure and with minimal

Non-Invasive Physical Plasma Treatment after Tooth Extraction in a Patient on Antiresorptive Medication Promotes Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Postoperative tissue regeneration can be negatively affected by bisphosphonate administration, especially in patients with oncologic diseases. A serious complication of bisphosphonate therapy is the medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ ...

Water Modification by Cold Plasma Jet with Respect to Physical and Chemical Properties

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
This work is devoted to unbuffered and buffered water treatment by means of atmospheric pressure cold plasma of electrical discharges. The interest in the activation of these two liquids by plasma-induced, gaseous-phase chemistry ranges over a wide area of potential applications and interdisciplinary scientific fields.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
