Cold‐pool formation in a narrow valley [PDF]
AbstractA numerical model simulation of the formation of a cold pool within a narrow valley during a clear calm night is presented. The results are compared with measurements made during the COLd air Pooling EXperiment (COLPEX). It is demonstrated that the model provides a realistic simulation of the observed cold pool.

Cold Pool Responses to Changes in Soil Moisture
This study examines the role of soil moisture in modulating convective cold pool properties in an idealized modeling framework that uses a cloud‐resolving model coupled to an interactive land surface model.

The cold pool outflow has been previously shown to be generated by decaying Mesoscale Convective Complexes (MCCs) in the Maritime Continent. The cold pool also has a main role in the development processes of oceanic convective systems inducing heavy ...

Cold pool processes in different environments [PDF]
Cold pools are localized regions of dense air near Earth's surface. They form in association with precipitating clouds in many environments ranging from moist tropical to semi-arid continental conditions, and they play important roles in weather in climate. The overarching goal of this dissertation research is to improve our process-level understanding

Analysis of Controlled Driving and Spreading Behavior of Molten Pool in Cold Metal Transfer
The controlled short-circuit transfer is used to control the heat input of the molten pool and the base metal in the cold metal transfer welding process, including droplet formation, droplet transfer and molten pool flow.

Strong and weak cold pool collisions [PDF]
Collisions between convective cold pools commonly initiate new convective storms. This occurs through enhancements to the vertical velocity through mechanical forcing, and increased water vapor content via thermodynamic forcing. The goal of this study is to investigate the impact of the following four parameters on the mechanical and thermodynamic ...

RANS Simulation of Local Strong Sandstorms Induced by a Cold Pool with Vorticity
Local strong sandstorms (LSSs) in northwestern China often occur suddenly in tens of minutes during the late afternoon and by dusk. Observations and theoretical studies have shown the trigger role of cold-air pools over desert areas for the occurrence of

On the sizes and lifetimes of cold pools [PDF]
Cold pools of air, which are formed by evaporating precipitation, play a critical role in the triggering of new precipitation. Despite their recognized importance, little effort has been devoted to building simple models of their dynamics. Here, analytical equations are derived for the radius, height, and buoyancy of a cylindrical cold pool as a ...

Characterizing convective cold pools [PDF]
AbstractCold pools produced by convective storms play an important role in Earth's climate system. However, a common framework does not exist for objectively identifying convective cold pools in observations and models. The present study investigates convective cold pools within a simulation of tropical continental convection that uses a cloud ...
