Analysis of the Triggering and Maintenance Mechanisms of a Record-Breaking Warm-Sector Extreme-Rainfall Process in Front of an Upper-Level Trough in Tianjin, China

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
A short-time rainstorm exceeding the extreme historical rainfall occurred in the Jinnan District of Tianjin, China, on 3 July 2022. Due to the concentrated time period of precipitation, it caused serious water accumulation in the Jinnan District.

An object-based model for convective cold pool dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A simple model of the organization of atmospheric moist convection by cold outflows is presented. The model consists of two layers: a lower layer where instability gradually builds up, and an upper layer where instability is rapidly released.

Extremely cold and hot temperatures increase the risk of ischaemic heart disease mortality: epidemiological evidence from China.

open access: yes, 2012
OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of extremely cold and hot temperatures on ischaemic heart disease (IHD) mortality in five cities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou) in China; and to examine the time relationships between cold and hot ...

Oleic acid is elevated in cell membranes during rapid cold-hardening and pupal diapause in the flesh fly, Sarcophaga crassipalpis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The integrity of cellular membranes is critical to the survival of insects at low temperatures, thus there is tremendous advantage conferred to insects that can adjust their composition of membrane fatty acids (FA’s). Such changes, known as homeoviscous

Improved induction of anti-melanoma T cells by adenovirus-5/3 fiber modification to target human DCs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
To mount a strong anti-tumor immune response, non T cell inflamed (cold) tumors may require combination treatment encompassing vaccine strategies preceding checkpoint inhibition.

Impact of Different Double-Moment Microphysical Schemes on Simulations of a Bow-Shaped Squall Line in East China

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
Four typical double-moment cloud microphysical schemes (Milbrandt, Morrison, NSSL and WDM6) in WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) are used to investigate the impact of the different schemes on the simulation of a straight squall line evolving into a ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Budget-Constrained Item Cold-Start Handling in Collaborative Filtering Recommenders via Optimal Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
It is well known that collaborative filtering (CF) based recommender systems provide better modeling of users and items associated with considerable rating history. The lack of historical ratings results in the user and the item cold-start problems.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
