IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The martyrdom effect : when pain and effort increase prosocial contributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Most theories of motivation and behavior (and lay intuitions alike) consider pain and effort to be deterrents. In contrast to this widely held view, we provide evidence that the prospect of enduring pain and exerting effort for a prosocial cause can ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

How do convective cold pools influence the atmospheric boundary layer near two wind turbines in northern Germany? [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
With increasing wind energy in the German energy grid, it is crucial to better understand how particular atmospheric phenomena can impact wind turbines and the surrounding atmospheric boundary layer.

Dehydration in the tropical tropopause layer: Implications from the UARS Microwave Limb Sounder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Measurements of H2O from the Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) on the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) are used to investigate the structure of H2O in the near tropopause region and dehydration mechanisms in the tropical tropopause layer (TTL).

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

External Drivers and Mesoscale Self‐Organization of Shallow Cold Pools in the Trade‐Wind Regime

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
Recent observations of the trade‐wind regions highlight the covariability between cold‐pool properties and mesoscale cloud organization. Given the covariability of organization with cloud cover and albedo, this suggests a potential impact of cold pools ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
