Personal Protection against Cold Environments
Journal of The Royal Naval Medical Service, 1981Abstract The most cursory glance at history will indicate that the local and general effects of cold can seriously impair operational efficiency, often leading to permanent damage in otherwise fit, healthy troops. This paper discusses the reasons for evaluating protective clothing and equipment scientifically, during the design stage ...

Studies of Cold Protection Diodes
1990The feasibility of a passive quench protection system for the Superconducting Supercollider (SSC) main ring magnets depends on the radiation resistance and reliability of the diodes used as current bypass elements. These diodes would be located inside the magnet cryostat, subjecting them to liquid helium temperature and a relatively high radiation flux.

Rapid cold-hardening protects Drosophila melanogaster from cold-induced apoptosis
Apoptosis, 2007The rapid cold-hardening (RCH) response increases the cold tolerance of insects by protecting against non-freezing, cold-shock injury. Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, plays important roles in development and the elimination of sub-lethally damaged cells.

Protective effects of steroids on the cortico-microcirculation injured by cold
Journal of Neurosurgery, 1979✓ Early microcirculatory changes after focal cold injury of the cerebral cortex were examined in dogs with and without steroids by serial fluorescein angiography of the brain (FAB), by measurement of the diameter of epicerebral vessels, and by measurement of cerebral blood flow with the clearance method using krypton-85 and xenon-133.
