Microphysical chemistry of fog–aerosol interactions over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during Fatima 2022

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Fifteen size‐resolved aerosol samples collected during marine fog, with adjacent ambient observations, show that coarse sea salt aerosol is rapidly grown and lost in the northwest North Atlantic Ocean except when subject to extreme winds. The persistence of fog in the absence of sea salt is determined by available fine‐mode aerosol, where greater ...

Polar‐low track prediction using machine‐learning methods

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Machine‐learning models are developed to produce reliable and efficient forecasts of polar‐low (PL) trajectories 12 hours ahead. A temporal model (RLSTM) benefiting from the rolling‐forecast strategy, improves overall prediction accuracy and is suitable for quick experimentation, while a spatiotemporal model (PL‐UNet), incorporating both historical and

Simulation of a Cold Roll-mill

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract The paper describes the complete digital simulation of a four-stands continuous cold strip mill with its sheet supply and coiler. The whole program contains 150 integrators and twenty circular tables for variable delays. All models are non-linear and the programmation is implemented in ACSL language.

Cold Rolling of Foil

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 1992
A theory of cold rolling of thin gauge strip is presented which, within the idealizations of homogeneous deformation and a constant coefficient of Coulomb friction, rigorously models the elastic deformation of the rolls and the frictional traction at the interface.

Cold Rolling of Polymers

Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 1976
Abstract Cold rolling of metals is a well-developed commercial practice. Cold rolling of polymers, on the other hand, is still in its early stages of research and development. It has shown sufficient promise so that it deserves more serious commercial development.

Simulation of cold rolling

Materials Science and Technology, 1986
AbstractAn interactive graphic simulator of the cold rolling process has been developed. The rolling pressure model is based upon the Bland–Ford theory and includes the elastic deformations of strip and work rolls. The transverse elastic deformation of the four-high roll system is modelled by a polynomial parametrization of the results from a finite ...

Chatter in Cold Rolling

CIRP Annals, 1982
A basic theory of chatter in. cold rolling is presented which is based on the effect of the variable scrip tension on the rolling force as well as on the variations of contact length The structure of a computer program simulating chatter of a tandem mill is presented and examples given of the effect of rolling speed, strip width, coefficient of ...

Virtual rolling quality system for cold rolling

Steel Research International, 2010
A prototype of virtual rolling quality system for a 4 stands cold rolling process is created. In this system virtual sensors and models are used to calculate quality features based on process information and analyzed history data. The virtual-sensor technology is developed for estimating of hard-to-measure variables and further on to define methods to ...

(A) Hot and cold rolling

International Metals Reviews, 1977
A complete review of developments in rolling during the last decade would have to cover thousands of published papers and also much unpublished work; comprehensive coverage would thus become impossible within the confines of a short review. In the earlier review of this series, Ford concentrated on the theory of flat rolling. Books

Cold rolling of polyethylene

Journal of Materials Science, 1971
The morphology of unidirectional cold rolled polyethylene was investigated. The techniques of scanning electronmicroscopy, wide angle X-ray diffraction, DTA, and XYZ photographic light scattering were employed. Most of the study was undertaken using low density polyethylene which had been initially cold rolled to an elongation of 100% and then annealed
