CFD Simulation of X-Ads Downcomer Thermal Stratification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
This work presents a numerical simulation using CFX 4.4 of the Energy Amplifier Experimental Facility (X-ADS) downcomer channel. The simulation is focused on the Steady-State Analysis. The Intermediate Heat exchangers (IHX) of the X-ADS reference configuration are immersed in the lead-bismuth eutectic of the downcomer.

Variational method in the design of an optimum solar water heater storage tank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Solar energy is a renewable resource because it is non-exhaustible and is available in abundance. The average daily total solar radiation amount in Malaysia is about 4500 Wh/m2, K.S Ong (1994).

Seasonal and inter-annual temperature variability in the bottom waters over the western Black Sea shelf [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Long-term changes in the state of the Bottom Shelf Water (BSW) on the Western shelf of the Black Sea are assessed using analysis of intra-seasonal and inter-annual temperature variations.

Germination of Fully Developed Corylopsis Seeds Influenced by Harvest Date and Cold Stratification [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 2018
Corylopsis seed germination tests were conducted to assess the influence of harvest date (seed maturity) and cold stratification (CS) at 5 °C. Corylopsis gotoana seeds harvested on 12 July, 2 and 22 Aug., 6 and 20 Sept., and 1 and 10 Oct. 2011 were immersed in water for 20 min to separate fully developed seeds (full seeds) from empty seeds by ...

Targeted Intervention Strategies for Maternal–Offspring Transmission of Christensenellaceae in Pigs via a Deep Learning Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study deciphers maternal‐driven microbial transmission in pigs using a deep learning model (maternal–offspring microbial transmission model), identifying Christensenellaceae R‐7 group as a key transmitted taxon. Filtered galacto‐oligosaccharides‐targeted Christensenellaceae R‐7 group alters offspring microbial functions via maternal ...

Multi‐Omics and ‐Organ Insights into Energy Metabolic Adaptations in Early Sepsis Onset

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that patients at risk of sepsis have a distinct metabolite and lipid signature, including serine and aminoadipic acid, in their serum before clinical diagnosis. A mouse model of sepsis with a compatible serum signature reveals underlying metabolic changes, including mitochondrial adaptation, altered serine‐dependent purine metabolism ...

Germination and Dormancy in Annual Halophyte Juncus ranarius Song & Perr.

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2015
The effects of cold stratification and gibberellic acid (GA3) on dormancy breaking for seeds of the annual halophyte species Juncus ranarius were tested. Germination percentage and recovery responses of salt stressed seeds were also tested.

Interaction effects between surface radiation and double-diffusive turbulent natural convection in an enclosed cavity filled with solid obstacles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The work reported here is a 2D numerical study on the buoyancy-driven low speed flow of humid air inside a rectangular cavity partially filled with solid cylindrical objects and whose vertical walls are maintained at 1.2 and 21 oC.

A Feedback Loop Between Fatty Acid Metabolism and Epigenetics in Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The current study has profiled the landscape of active enhancers in ccRCC and identified FABP5 as an oncogene. FABP5 is essential for the lipid droplet formation driven by HIFs and critical for H3K27ac and enhancer activity. The study has discovered the function of a feedback loop between epigenetics and lipid metabolism regulated by FABP5 in ccRCC ...

Qualitative changes in the proteins of cotyledons during cold and warm stratification of Acer platanoides seeds

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
In Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.) seeds, during dormancy breakage there appeared some qualitative changes in protein composition of the cotyledons.
