Response of the North Atlantic surface and intermediate ocean structure to climate warming of MIS 11 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Investigating past interglacial climates not only help to understand how the climate system operates in general, it also forms a vital basis for climate predictions.

Thermocline management of stratified tanks for heat storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Stratified tanks are useful for maximising the thermal energy efficiency of non-continuous and semi-continuous processes. Liquid at two or more dissimilar temperatures is stored within the same tank to provide a buffer for variations in heating and ...

Mechanism of Cold-spot Autoignition in a Hydrogen/Air Mixture [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
When designing high-efficiency spark-ignition (SI) engines to operate at high compression ratios, one of the main issues that have to be addressed is detonation development from a pre-ignition front. In order to control this phenomenon, it is necessary to understand the mechanism by which the detonation is initiated.

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Storage of cuttings before and after grafting influences survival and vigor of vine grafts

open access: yesRevista Ceres, 2020
Several grafting methods have been developed, and bench grafting with stratification is the most widely used technique, except in Brazil, which is still in adaptation.

Effect of local and upwind stratification on flow and dispersion inside and above a bi-dimensional street canyon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The effects of a stably-stratified boundary layer on flow and dispersion in a bi-dimensional street canyon have been investigated experimentally in a wind tunnel in combination with differential wall heating. Laser-Doppler anemometry together with a fast flame ionisation detector and cold-wire anemometry were employed to sample velocities ...

Supergranulation as the largest buoyantly driven convective scale of the Sun [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Supergranulation is characterized by horizontally divergent flows with typical length scales of 32 Mm in the solar photosphere. Unlike granulation, the size of which is comparable to both the thickness of the radiative boundary layer and local scale ...

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...
