Characterization of Gut Microbiota in Prenatal Cold Stress Offspring Rats by 16S rRNA Sequencing

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Our previous study showed a reduction of anxiety-like behavior in offspring rats suffered from prenatal cold stress; whether this was related to changes in the offspring gut microbiota is unclear. To obtain the evidence for the role of the gut microbiota

Mesoscale patterns in the Cape Sao Vicente (Iberian Peninsula) upwelling region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The coastal upwelling region near Cape Sao Vicente, the southwestern tip of the Iberian Peninsula where the southern zonal coast meets the meridional western coast, was studied using over 1200 advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) satellite ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Foliar selenium application mitigates low-temperature stress in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) seedlings

open access: yesEnergy Nexus, 2022
Cold stress is a severe problem for the plants in tropical regions. In the present study, oxidative responses during low temperature stress in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) to confine mechanisms of cold tolerance and also to assess the effects of foliar ...

Comparative study of evolution of residual stress state by local mechanical tensioning and laser processing of ferritic and austenitic structural steel welds. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Complex thermal stresses generated in welded structures are undesirable but inevitable in fusion welding. The presence of residual stresses can be detrimental to the integrity of a welded joint.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Repeatability of a cold stress test to assess cold sensitization [PDF]

open access: yesOccupational Medicine, 2015
Non-freezing cold injury (NFCI) is a syndrome in which damage to peripheral tissues occurs without the tissues freezing following exposure to low ambient temperatures. To assess the test-retest reliability of a cold stress test (CST) used to assess cold sensitization.Volunteers with no self-reported history of NFCI undertook the CST on three occasions ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Phenotypic variation in hypocotyl elongation among elite sand rice (Agriophyllum squarrosum) lines

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Sand rice (Agriophyllum squarrosum), widely distributed in Central Arid Asia and prevalent in the sand dunes of northern China, presents a promising potential as a climate‐resilient crop.
