molecular analysis of somatic coliphages as an indicator for microbial source tracking
Viral pathogens, which are excreted with human and animal feces, can cause an infection to human through water sources. The current method by indicator bacteria has limitation to evaluate microbial water quality by viral pathogens.

Coliphages and enteroviruses were monitored over 12 months in sewage and air adjacent to an activated sludge plant. Both showed temporal variation but the mean count of phages in enterovirus‐positive samples was not significantly different from that in ...

Fate of Coliphage in a Wastewater Treatment Process
The fate of coliphage in a wastewater treatment plant in the central part of Japan was investigated from March to December 2001. A relative abundance of coliphage, 1000-10,000 PFU/ml determined with three different Escherichia coli strains, was detected in the influent.

Male-specific (F+) coliphages were investigated as indicators of virus inactivation during thermophilic digestion and other thermal processes. Because pathogen monitoring in sludge is difficult, costly, and impractical, microbial indicators are needed to

Inactivation of coliphage Qβ by potassium ferrate [PDF]
The kinetics of inactivation of a bacteriophage by potassium ferrate were studied with the F-specific RNA-coliphage Q beta. Inactivation in phosphate buffer (pH 6, 7 and 8) containing ferrate could be described by Hom's model. The inactivation rate depended on the pH.

Background: Antibiotic resistance is rising in important bacterial pathogens. Phage therapy (PT), the use of bacterial viruses infecting the pathogen in a species-specific way, is a potential alternative.

Field studies on coliphages and coliforms as indicators of airborne animal viral contamination from wastewater treatment facilities [PDF]
The occurrence of animal viruses in the aerosol emissions of wastewater treatment facilities was evaluated by direct assay and by the use of coliforms and coliphages as indicator organisms. Coliforms and coliphages were compared and evaluated with regard

Isolation and virion morphology classification of coliphages from local foods
Bacteriophages are viruses that exclusively target and reproduce within bacteria. Bacteriophages that infect Escherichia coli (E. coli) are known as coliphages.

Identification And Characterisation Of Coliphages From Seawater In Batu Ferringhi, Penang [PDF]
Pathogenic microorganisms in polluted recreational seawater would be harmful to beachgoers and marine lives. Coliphages are recognised as bioindicator for the presence of human viruses in water quality monitoring.

Hepatitis E virus and coliphages in waters proximal to swine concentrated animal feeding operations
North Carolina is the second leading state in pork production in the United States, with over 10 million swine. Swine manure in NC is typically collected and stored in open-pit lagoons before the liquid waste is sprayed onto agricultural fields for ...
