Distribution of Coliphages in Various Foods
The distribution of coliphages in various foods and the relationship between the incidences of coliphages and bacterial indicators were investigated. A total of 120 food samples comprising twelve products and including fresh meats, shellfish, vegetables and processed meats, were analyzed for indigenous coliphages using Escherichia coli hosts C, C-3000 ...

Here, we investigated the abundance of cyanophages and the extent to which they infect Synechococcus and Prochlorococcus, important primary producers, in the cold, low‐light, iron‐limited, sub‐Antarctic waters of the Pacific Ocean. We found that cyanophages are significant mortality agents, leading to substantial losses of these picocyanobacteria ...

A comparison of the DNA binding and bending capacities and the oligomeric states of the immunity repressors of heteroimmune coliphages P2 and WPhi [PDF]
Bacteriophages P2 and WΦ are heteroimmune members of the P2-like family of temperate Escherichia coli phages. Temperate phages can grow lytically or form lysogeny after infection.

Bacteriophages (phages) have emerged as promising agents for combating bacterial pathogens, including nontyphoidal Salmonella enterica (S. enterica), the most common foodborne pathogen worldwide. The emergence of antimicrobial‐resistant (AMR) S. enterica poses a severe healthcare issue.

Polyvalent Coliphages in Sewage
High concentrations of coliphages were isolated during December and March when the maximum average daytime temperature reaches 20°C. Eight coliphages capable of infecting various strains of E. coli and a few selected members of Enterobacteriaceae were isolated.

Impact of flocculated and softened particles on UV254 inactivation of indigenous spores
Abstract US regulatory ultraviolet (UV) disinfection credit is typically granted when turbidity is ≤1 NTU. However, studies show turbidity does not always correlate well with UV dose responses. This study examined the impact of worst‐case high turbidity scenarios at drinking water treatment plants on UV254 inactivation of indigenous spores from ...

Biochemical Characterization of RNA Coliphage MX1
In order to clarify the taxonomic status of an RNA coliphage, MX1 (a serological intermediate between groups III and IV), we examined (i) read-through protein synthesis in a cell-free protein-synthesizing system, (ii) the peptide map of the coat protein and (iii) the RNA sequence in the 3'-terminal region of MX1 RNA.
