The Organization of Cross-Linking in Collagen Fibrils
Connective Tissue Research, 1983The cross-linked peptides in cyanogen bromide digests from rabbit and calf fibrils of type I collagen have been compared by gel filtration and electrophoresis. Fibrils were prepared in vitro from acid-soluble collagen, or tendons were used; both were reduced with borohydride to stabilize cross-linking adducts.

Collagen cross-linking and corneal infections
Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2013This review presents current data regarding the use of collagen cross-linking in the management of corneal infections. Infectious keratitis can lead to blindness without proper antimicrobial therapy. The disease can still progress and lead to corneal melt despite early detection and management.

Analysis of collagen and elastin cross-links
2018Fibrillar collagens represent the most abundant extracellular matrix proteins in vertebrates providing tissues and organs with form, stability, and connectivity. For such mechanical functions, the formation of covalent intermolecular cross-linking between molecules is essential.

Corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus
Vestnik oftal'mologii, 2015Over the last decade, corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) has become a conventional treatment method for progressive keratoconus. Laboratory studies have shown that CXL increases the diameter of collagen fibers and also the number of intra- and interfibrillar cross-links, thus, increasing biomechanical strength of the irradiated cornea.

Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking Complications
Seminars in Ophthalmology, 2017Corneal cross-linking was approved by United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of progressive keratoconus in April 2016. As this approach becomes more widely used for the treatment of keratoconus and post-laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) ectasia, the medical community is becoming more familiar with potential complications ...

Cross-linking in Collagen by Potassium Nitrosyldisulphonate
Nature, 1968Earland and Stell1,2 found that wool, silk, casein and insulin, when treated with potassium nitrosyl disulphonate (KNDS), acquired altered properties which led them to conclude that new interchain cross-links had been formed and that tyrosine residues were involved in their formation.

The Unusual Links and Cross-Links of Collagen
1965Publisher Summary This chapter concerns the work on the unusual links and cross-links of collagen. The unusual linkages may exist as branching points or cross-links or may be built into the peptide backbone itself. This chapter discusses the cross-links of collagen. It also reviews the evidence for different unusual links in collagen.

Cross-Linking of Collagen Depending on Age
Gerontology, 2009The spectrum of aldimine cross-link bonds of skin collagen is dependent on the localization of the examined material. In correlation to this, there is no synchronous behaviour of cross-linkage in the aging process. The age-dependent decrease of HLNL and the increase of DHLNL in the collagen of tail tendon is only unsubstantially found in the skin of ...
