Assessment of Loess Collapsibility with GRNN
2011A model of generalized regression neural network (GRNN) to evaluate collapsibility of loess is suggested in this paper, in which water content, saturation degree, dry density, void ratio and plastic index are taken as input neural cells and the output neural cell is coefficient of collapsibility. Selecting a series of distribution density of the radial

Analysis on the characteristics of loess collapsibility in loess plateau, Northern Shaanxi province
2011 International Symposium on Water Resource and Environmental Protection, 2011Collapsible loess is widely spread in Loess Plateau, northern Shaanxi province. The constructional damage due to side slope and irrigation will be caused if the loess doesn't deal with properly. Based on the analysis features of loess collapsibility and numbers of lab tests, this paper presents the relationship between loess structural parameters and ...

Variation in Collapsibility and Strength of Loess with Age
1995In the natural state, both the well developed structure and notable strength of loess in China increase with depth (ie age). However, such variation becomes less prominent when the samples become saturated and the test results are analyzed in the light of a depth (overburden) denominator.

A Stress Path Model for Collapsible Loess
1995Stress paths were determined for loess in situ at two sites, from overburden pressures and from lateral stresses measured with the Ko Stepped Blade. Ko is as low as 0.1 to 0.3, compared with 0.4 to 0.5 for a normally consolidated silt soil. The Ko values are consistent with compression of a laterally confined solid having a low Poisson’s ratio.

Expedient Mitigation of Collapsible Loess in Northern Afghanistan
Expedient Mitigation of Collapsible Loess in Northern Afghanistan, 2013The arid climate, low water table and mountainous terrain in northern Afghanistan favor aeolian deposition of deep formations of collapsible loess with low relative density. When the loess deposits become wet, the clay cementing agents are unable to support the overburden pressure, and the soil structure collapses.
