Collateral-Enhanced Default Risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Changes in collateralization have been implicated in significant default (or near-default) events during the financial crisis, most notably with AIG. We have developed a framework for quantifying this effect based on moving between Merton-type and Black ...

Collateral Clock Is More Important Than Time Clock for Tissue Fate: A Natural History Study of Acute Ischemic Strokes

open access: yesStroke, 2018
Background and Purpose— Although perfusion abnormality is an increasingly important therapeutic target, the natural history of tissue at risk without reperfusion treatment is understudied. Our objective was to determine how time affects penumbral salvage

Basilar Artery Occlusion Stroke Managed With Tenecteplase Versus Alteplase Before Endovascular Treatment (BAO‐TNK)

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the effectiveness and safety of tenecteplase (TNK) versus alteplase (TPA) in patients with basilar artery occlusion prior to endovascular treatment (EVT). Methods In this retrospective multicenter study (BAO‐TNK), we analyzed consecutive BAO patients from 14 U.S.

Collateral circulation- Evolving from time window to tissue window

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2023
Cerebral collateral circulation refers to the auxiliary vascular structures which compensate cerebral blood flow when it has been compromised due to stenosis or occlusion of the principal supplying arteries.

Pervasive and diverse collateral sensitivity profiles inform optimal strategies to limit antibiotic resistance

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
Evolved resistance to one antibiotic may be associated with “collateral” sensitivity to other drugs. Here we provide an extensive quantitative characterization of collateral effects in E. faecalis, a gram-positive opportunistic pathogen.

Adult‐Onset Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis Presenting With Subacute Cognitive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe the case of a 41‐year‐old man diagnosed with adult‐onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). The patient presented with subacute progressive cognitive deficits and a neuropsychological profile indicating predominant frontoparietal dysfunction. MRI showed only mild parietal‐predominant cerebral atrophy.

Exosomes from high glucose-treated glomerular endothelial cells activate mesangial cells to promote renal fibrosis

open access: yesBiology Open, 2016
The interaction between glomerular endothelial cells (GECs) and glomerular mesangial cells (GMCs) is an essential aspect of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Therefore, understanding how GECs communicate with GMCs in the diabetic environment is crucial for the ...

Alternative Evolutionary Paths to Bacterial Antibiotic Resistance Cause Distinct Collateral Effects

open access: yesMolecular biology and evolution, 2017
When bacteria evolve resistance against a particular antibiotic, they may simultaneously gain increased sensitivity against a second one. Such collateral sensitivity may be exploited to develop novel, sustainable antibiotic treatment strategies aimed at ...

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...

Gut Microbiota and Neurotransmitter Regulation: Functional Effects of Four Traditional Chinese Fermented Soybean (Sojae Semen Praeparatum)

open access: yesFoods
This study aims to evaluate the potential disease prevention and treatment functions of four types of traditional Chinese fermented Sojae Semen Praeparatum (SSP) by analyzing their nutritional active components and their effects on the gut microbiota ...
