Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

BETWEEN THE RESTRUCTURING AND THE EXPANSION OF THE BRAZILIAN FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES: MOVEMENTS THAT SINGLE OUT THE CROSSING OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF PELOTAS / ENTRE A REESTRUTURAÇÃO E A EXPANSÃO DAS UNIVERSIDADES FEDERAIS BRASILEIRAS: MOVIMENTOS QUE SINGULARIZAM A TRAVESSIA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE PELOTAS

open access: yesDidasc@lia: didáctica y educación, 2011
In the present article, it is analyzed the academic implications between space and curricular design – guide-lines from the program REUNI/MEC –in the context of the Federal University of Pelotas.

Collective Nostalgia Is Associated With Stronger Outgroup-Directed Anger and Participation in Ingroup-Favoring Collective Action

open access: yesJournal of Social and Political Psychology, 2017
Collective nostalgia refers to longing for the way society used to be. We tested whether collective nostalgia is associated with ingroup-favoring collective action and whether this association is mediated by outgroup-directed anger and outgroup-directed ...

Learning the Lessons of Openness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Open Educational Resources (OER) movement has built up a record of experience and achievements since it was formed 10 years ago as an identifiable approach to sharing online learning materials. In its initial phase, much activity was driven by ideals

Sharp profiles in models of collective movements [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Differential Equations and Applications NoDEA, 2017
We consider a parabolic partial differential equation that can be understood as a simple model for crowds flows. Our main assumption is that the diffusivity and the source/sink term vanish at the same point; the nonhomogeneous term is different from zero at any other point and so the equation is not monostable.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Movement disorders: a themed collection [PDF]

open access: yesAge and Ageing, 2019
Abstract Movement disorders are a diverse and challenging group of neurological conditions. Geriatricians and allied health professionals play a key role in the care of patients living with these disorders. Age and Ageing is making freely available online a collection of 15 papers that highlight the breadth and depth of this field ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Collective order and group structure of shoaling fish subject to differing risk-level treatments with a sympatric predator

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
It is imperative for individuals to exhibit flexible behaviour according to ecological context, such as available resources or predation threat. Manipulative studies on responses to threat often focus on behaviour in the presence of a single indicator ...

A Survey of Collective Movement of Mobile Robots

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2013
Collective movement of mobile robots is the problem of how to control a group of robots making them move as a group, in a cohesive way, towards a common direction.
