Collective Inertial Masses in Nuclear Reactions

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Toward the microscopic theoretical description for large amplitude collective dynamics, we calculate the coefficients of inertial masses for low-energy nuclear reactions.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Collective Scattering of Light on Gold Nanospheres Dispersed in Diethylene Glycol Microdroplet

open access: yes, 2017
Light scattering on a freely suspended, evaporating droplet of suspension of gold nanospheres (125 nm radius) in diethylene glycol is studied, revealing both local and nonlocal properties of the system.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Accessing the Magnetic Morphology of Ferromagnetic Molecular-Based Nanoparticles from Polarized Small-Angle Neutron Scattering

open access: yesInorganics
Polarized Small-Angle Neutron Scattering is a versatile low-energy neutron scattering technique that allows for the access of magnetic information on nanosize objects of size 2–100 nm, from individual properties like the magnetization distribution inside

Collective atomic scattering and motional effects in a dense coherent medium

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Light scattering from a dense coherent medium is determined by the interplay of dispersive and radiative dipole–dipole interactions. Here, the authors control the motional effects that obscure the coherence of scattered light and study collective ...

Critique of the collective model of inelastic scattering

open access: yes, 1971
The presently accepted formalism for inelastic scattering of nucleons from collective nuclei is based on a deformed optical potential. A simple microscopic model is used to compare this formalism with an alternative formation based on a deformed nuclear ...

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...
