Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The analysis of tariffs for collective sewage treatment services in the cities of the warmińsko-mazurskie voivodeship

open access: yesEconomics and Environment, 2018
The aim of the article is to analyze the tariffs for collective sewage disposal in the cities of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship in terms of the type of tariffs and compliance with the principle of elimination of cross-subsidization. On the basis of

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Treatment of Prostatic Abscess: Case Collection and Comparison of Treatment Methods [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Urology, 2012
Prostatic abscess is an uncommon urologic disease but has a high mortality rate if not treated properly. Furthermore, diagnosis and proper treatment of prostatic abscesses remains a challenge for physicians. Therefore, we compared data on conservative treatments, transurethral resection of prostatic abscess, and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Combining dynamic generalized linear models and mechanistic modelling to optimize treatment strategies against bovine respiratory disease

open access: yesVeterinary Research
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is a major health challenge for young bulls. To minimize economic losses, collective treatments have been widely adopted.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

So who exactly are those at risk? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
During the last few days I have been following the live tweets from @JusticeforLBGMC on the General Medical Council’s (GMC) fitness for practice hearing for the ‘responsible’ clinician who was meant to be leading on the assessment and treatment of LB ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
