Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 1996We present a mathematical index of colllision risk and propose it as a candidate conflict probe for use in free flight. The index can be used to aid and measure ATC and pilot performance during simulated or real flight. The instantaneous value of the index is a relative (ordinal) measure of global situational risk.
