Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Physics at future accelerators [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
New high-energy colliders are currently under discussion, and will potentially be operational after the completion of the LHC/HL-LHC program. They could open up scenarios for the exploration of the Standard Model of fundamental interactions and its ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Longitudinal Changes in Adiposity After a Youth Sport‐Related Knee Injury: Informing Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Prevention

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Youth who experience a sport‐related knee injury have elevated odds of becoming overweight or developing obesity in 3 to 10 years, compounding their risk for posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). To inform prevention strategies, this study compared patterns of adiposity change between youth with a sport‐related knee injury and uninjured youth ...

ESTIMATE OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD STRENGTH IN HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2009
Magnetic fields created in the noncentral heavy-ion collision are studied within a microscopic transport model, namely the Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (UrQMD). Simulations were carried out for different impact parameters within the SPS energy range (E lab = 10-158A GeV ) and for highest energies accessible for RHIC.

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Recommended Data on Electron-ion Collision Strengths and Effective Collision Strengths for Fe X. Fe XI and Fe XIII Ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Data obtained for electron-induced excitation transitions between levels with principal quantum numbers n=3 in Cl-like Fe X, S-like Fe XI, and Si-like Fe XIII ions by different theoretical methods were compared, and recommended data for electron ...

Cross Sections for Electron Impact Excitation of O VI Lines

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2011
Radiative atomic data and electron impact excitation cross sections for the 2s-2p transitions in O VI for transitions among the fine structure levels belonging to the 1s2nl (2 ≤ n ≤ 5) configurations have been calculated.

Effective collision strengths between Mg i and electrons [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2015
The treatment of the inelastic collisions with electrons and hydrogen atoms are the main source of uncertainties in non-Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium (LTE) spectral line computations. We report, in this research note, quantum mechanical data for 369 collisional transitions of \ion{Mg}{I} with electrons for temperatures comprised between 500 and 20000~

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
