Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is a minimally invasive technique specifically designed to explore the colon without sedation and air insufflation. CCE may overcome some of the limitations of colonoscopy. Second-generation CCE (CCE-2) was proved accurate in detecting colonic neoplastic lesions when used in average-risk individuals.

PillCam Colon Capsule Endoscopy represents an innovative non-invasive, painless, swallowed "colonoscope" that is able to explore the colon without requiring sedation and air insufflation. Despite being already available in Europe as well as in other countries, its clinical indications as well as reporting and work-up of detected findings have not been ...

There are multiple indications for luminal imaging of the colon. From assessment of known disease, to diagnosing new pathology; intra-luminal visualisation is the mainstay of gastrointestinal diagnosis. Colonoscopy and radiological imaging are currently the most frequently deployed diagnostic methods. However, both have an associated risk profile, have

Colon Capsule Endoscopy – Shining the Light through the Colon
Current Gastroenterology Reports, 2023Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is a non-invasive, wireless capsule endoscope. In this article, we review its current applications, compare its performance with optical colonoscopy (OC) and alternative imaging modalities like CT colonography (CTC), and highlight developments that may increase potential future use.By comparison to OC both CCE and CTC have

Colon capsule endoscopy: the evidence is piling up
Gut, 2021We read with interest the multicentre comparison study by Cash et al on the diagnostic yield (DY) of colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) versus CT colonography (CTC) in a screening population.1 Out of 320 enrolled, data from 286 (89.4%) subjects were evaluated. CCE was superior to CTC in the detection of polyps ≥6 mm and non-inferior for polyps ≥10 mm.

Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is a minimally invasive alternative for patients unwilling to undergo conventional colonoscopy, or for whom the latter exam is contraindicated. This is particularly important in the setting of colorectal cancer screening. Nevertheless, these exams produce large numbers of images, and reading them is a monotonous and time ...
