A yeast fermentate improves gastrointestinal discomfort and constipation by modulation of the gut microbiome : results from a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled pilot trial [PDF]
Background: Constipation and symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort such as bloating are common among otherwise healthy individuals, but with significant impact on quality of life.

Study on function of aganglionic colon musculature of hirschsprung's disease murine model.
This study examined the function in vitro of aganglionic colon musculature in mice with hereditary aganglionosis--a strain of animals used as a model of Hirschsprung's disease. Double sucrose gap recordings from the muscle strips of both normal and aganglionic colon showed bursts of spike potentials with muscle contraction.

HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Determinants of colonic barrier function in inflammatory bowel disease and potential therapeutics
Abstract Intestinal barrier dysfunction is a main feature of the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Leak flux diarrhoea and a facilitated uptake of noxious antigens are the two consequences resulting from an impaired epithelial barrier.

Comparison of bran, ispaghula, and lactulose on colon function in diverticular disease. [PDF]
Bran, ispaghula (Fybogel), and lactulose were given to three groups of patients with diverticular disease for four weeks. Faecal weights, bile acids, fat and electrolytes, transit time, and colonic motility were estimated before and after treatment. Stool weight increased, notably with Fybogel.

Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...
