Color Center in Amethyst Quartz
Science, 1966Treatment with x-rays increased the intensity of color of natural amethyst up to fivefold, and an electron paramagnetic resonance spectrum was detected. The intensity of the spectrum was proportional to the intensity of the optical absorption near 545 mμ.

Color-center powder laser: the effect of pulverization on color-center characteristics
Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 1997Stimulated emission is obtained and characterized in a powder of LiF crystal with color centers. Absorption, luminescent, and kinetics properties of color centers are studied in powder samples of LiF. They are found to be rather different from those in a bulk material.
