Although it is not likely that reactions involving color centers will ever be put on the precise thermodynamic basis of many reactions in liquid solutions where in many cases it has been possible to determine not only all of the species taking part in the process but their chemical activities as well, quantitative studies of the kind outlined here have

Abstract Color centers in alkali halide crystals can be applied as high-gain active materials in tunable solid state lasers. When cryogenically cooled and optically pumped, these laser crystals have low threshold pump powers, relatively high output powers, and are smoothly tunable over a large fraction of their broad emission bands.

Passively mode-locked color-center laser
Optics Letters, 1987Passive mode locking of a cw (chopped) color-center laser using a saturable-absorber polymethine cyanine dye is reported for the first time to our knowledge. By employing the dye IR 140 for passive mode locking, we have obtained stable-output trains of pulses from a LiF:F(2)(+) laser at wavelengths around 870 nm.

Color-center powder laser: the effect of pulverization on color-center characteristics
Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 1997Stimulated emission is obtained and characterized in a powder of LiF crystal with color centers. Absorption, luminescent, and kinetics properties of color centers are studied in powder samples of LiF. They are found to be rather different from those in a bulk material.

We report a room temperature tunable color center distributed feedback (DFB) laser using stabilized F2+** centers in LiF (LiF:F2+**) as a gain medium. Tunable oscillation of LiF:F2+** DFB lasing was achieved in the near infrared region (882–962 nm) with a lasing linewidth of less than 0.2 cm−1.

Color Centers in Irradiated Durene Crystals
Physica Status Solidi (a), 1981The optical absorption spectra of γ-irradiated durene single crystals at 77 K are measured using light polarized along the a-, b-, and c′-axes of crystals. In the shorter wavelength region five strong absorption bands are detected. At longer wavelength weak bands at 489 nm with well desolved vibrational structures and relatively broad weak bands at 570

Flashlamp pumped color center lasers
Optics Communications, 1983Abstract Flashlamp pumped tunable operation of FA(II) and FB(II) center lasers is reported. Threshold pump energies as low as 400 mJ, output energies of nearly 70 mJ and an efficiency of 0.1% have been achieved. The width of the emission spectrum of initially 70 GHz with a Littrow grating tuner was reduced to 1.5 GHz using a grazing incidence grating
