Color discrimination and color preferences in Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)

Primates, 2020
Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) have been known for a long time to have color vision identical to humans (Grether in J Comp Psychol 29(2):167-177, 1940b; Jacobs et al. in Vis Res 36(16):2587-2594, 1996). With this study, we wonder if chimpanzees, as humans, show preferences for some colors rather than others.

Extraversion, Neuroticism, and Color Preferences

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1972
Extraverts ( N = 80), Neurotics ( N = 80), and an undifferentiated group ( N = 160), with equal numbers of males and females in each group coming from 4 diverse national backgrounds, expressed their preferences for 8 Ostwald hues (red, orange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, and purple) through the method of paired comparisons.

Color Preferences and Cultural Variation

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1968
160 American, Lebanese, Iranian, and Kuwaiti university students, with equal number of males and females in each group, expressed their preferences for 8 Ostwald hues (Red, Orange, Yellow, Yellow-green, Green, Blue-green, Blue, Purple) through the method of paired comparisons. Definite cultural and some sex differences were found.

Introversion — Extraversion and Color Preferences

Journal of Projective Techniques and Personality Assessment, 1967
Abstract Experimental evidence was sought for F. Birren's claims (Birren, 1956; 1961; 1963) that introverts prefer “cool” (green-blue) colors, while extraverts prefer “warm” (yellow-red) colors. One hundred and twenty Middle-East Introvert, Normal, and Extravert subjects, classified in accordance with the scores obtained on MPI, with equal number of ...

Color Preferences, Color Harmony, and the Quantitative Use of Colors

Empirical Studies of the Arts, 1984
One hundred and forty-eight subjects participated in an experiment in which each subject had 1) to indicate the magnitude of his or her preferences between all pairs of seven surface colors and 2) to later use the same seven colors in a coloring task so as to create as harmonic a painting as possible.

Combination of Preferred Illuminance and Preferred Color Temperature for Work

2013 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2013
We have been conducting research on an Intelligent Lighting System which is able to provides required illuminance for each worker. In the Intelligent Lighting System, it is possible to provide illuminance and color temperature in an arbitrary location by incorporating chroma sensor into the system.

Preferred skin color enhancement for photographic color reproduction

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
Skin tones are the most important colors among the memory color category. Reproducing skin colors pleasingly is an important factor in photographic color reproduction. Moving skin colors toward their preferred skin color center improves the color preference of skin color reproduction.

Color preference and perceived color naturalness of digital videos

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
In this study, we examined the subjective attributes of color preference and perceived naturalness of digital videos when the chroma of the color content was varied. More specifically, the objectives were: (1) to determine how the scaling of color chroma affected the mean color preference rating and the mean naturalness rating across subjects and (2 ...

A novel color mapping method for preferred color reproduction

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
We propose a novel color mapping method that generates smooth color transition and can accommodate the color preference. The method consists of two stages; rough calibration and black generation. The rough calibration process generates a three dimensional (3-D) Look-Up-Table converting input RGB data to printable CMY values.

Color discrimination, color naming and color preferences in 80-year olds

Aging Clinical and Experimental Research, 1999
The aim of the present study was to investigate color discrimination, color naming and color preference in a random sample of 80-year-old men and women. Knowledge of color perception in old age can be of value when using color contrast, cues and codes in the environment to promote orientation and function.
