La geometría de visualización afecta el dicromatismo sexual y la conspicuidad de la coloración del plumaje no iridiscente de Tersina viridis [PDF]
Some types of plumage color are difficult to characterize spectrophotometrically because the properties of the reflected light change with viewing geometry (i.e.

Apart from traditional characters, other data have been used for taxonomy, like color patterns. Based on the different colors (green and orange) observed for some Calcinus tibicen (Herbst, 1761) specimens, we evaluated the genetic distance for cytochrome

Extreme offspring ornamentation in American coots is favored by selection within families, not benefits to conspecific brood parasites [PDF]
Offspring ornamentation typically occurs in taxa with parental care, suggesting that selection arising from social interactions between parents and offspring may underlie signal evolution.

Between coloring and list-coloring: μ-coloring
A new variation of the coloring problem, μ-coloring, is defined in this paper. A coloring of a graph G = (V,E) is a function f : V → N such that f(v) 6= f(w) if v is adjacent to w. Given a graph G = (V,E) and a function μ : V → N, G is μ-colorable if it admits a coloring f with f(v) ≤ μ(v) for each v ∈ V .

Influence of oxygen pressure on the fs laserinduced oxidation of molybdenum thin films [PDF]
We present a study of femtosecond (1028 nm, 230 fs, 54.7 MHz) laser processing on molybdenum (Mo) thin films. Irradiations were done under ambient air as well as pure oxygen (O2) at various gauge pressures (4, 8, 12 and 16 psi). Our results indicate that

Although ubiquitous, color pickers have remained largely unchanged for 25 years. Based on contextual interviews with artists and designers, we created the Color Portraits design space to characterize five key color manipulation activities: sampling and tweaking individual colors, manipulating color relationships, combining colors with other elements ...

Copper is essential for life, but it can be deleterious in concentrations that surpass the physiological limits. Copper pollution is related to widespread human activities, such as viticulture and wine production. To unravel aspects of how organisms cope

Colour change and assortment in the western rainbowfish [PDF]
Grouping behaviour is widespread across the animal kingdom, and is known to reduce an individual's risk of predation, for example through predator confusion.

Ontogeny of color development in two green–brown polymorphic grasshopper species
Many insects, including several orthopterans, undergo dramatic changes in body coloration during ontogeny. This variation is particularly intriguing in gomphocerine grasshoppers, where the green and brown morphs appear to be genetically determined ...
