Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

MMP-2 and MMP-9 in normal mucosa are independently associated with outcome of colorectal cancer patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BackgroundUpregulation of the matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9 in various cancers has been associated with worse survival of the patients.MethodsWe assessed MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels in normal colorectal mucosa from colorectal cancer patients in ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Multiple rapidly growing desmoid tumors that were difficult to distinguish from recurrence of rectal cancer

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2017
Background Intra-abdominal desmoid tumors are usually slow growing and solitary, but multifocal desmoid tumors develop on rare occasions. Diagnosing desmoid tumors before histological examination of a surgical biopsy is often difficult. In particular, if

Staging the tumor and staging the host: A two centre, two country comparison of systemic inflammatory responses of patients undergoing resection of primary operable colorectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: How systemic inflammation-based prognostic scores such as the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS) and neutrophil:lymphocyte ratio (NLR) differ across populations of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unknown.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Effect of sex differences on the emergence of ctDNA RAS mutations in RAS wild-type colorectal cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports
In some cases of RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), mutant RAS may emerge during chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify the clinicopathological factors associated with the emergence of RAS mutations during treatment.

Evaluation of the utility of a nomogram for predicting lymph node metastasis in T1 colorectal cancer in shared decision-making in clinical practice: a survey-based study [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Coloproctology
Purpose In 2019, we reported a novel nomogram to predict lymph node metastasis (LNM) in T1 colorectal cancer. Herein, we conducted a survey-based study to evaluate the clinical utility of this nomogram in determining the need for additional surgery after

Nutritional and inflammatory measures predict survival of patients with stage IV colorectal cancer

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2020
Background This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of nutritional and inflammatory measures (controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS)) on overall survival ...

A cohort study of the recovery of health and wellbeing following colorectal cancer (CREW study): protocol paper [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: the number of people surviving colorectal cancer has doubled in recent years. While much of the literature suggests that most people return to near pre-diagnosis status following surgery for colorectal cancer, this literature has largely ...
