Liver resection for colorectal liver metastases
European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO), 1995The management of patients with colorectal liver metastases is still controversial. Recent evidence suggests benefit for resection of localized metastases within a single lobe of the liver. A series of 49 patients undergoing liver resection for localized liver metastases is presented.

Resection of colorectal liver metastases
Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, 1999Surgical resection is presently the only approach that offers patients with liver metastases from colorectal carcinoma substantial chance of cure. This article summarizes the current literature as well as the author's personal experience.Since 1980, 5-year survival figures have ranged from 21% in collected series to 48% in single-institution series ...

Management of colorectal liver metastases
Colorectal Disease, 2003AbstractHepatic metastases occur in 60% of patients following resection for colorectal cancer. Liver resection is the only curative option, with one third of resected patients alive at five years. In those developing recurrence in the liver following resection, further liver surgery may be curative, with similar 5 years survival rates of about 30 ...

Biology of colorectal liver metastases
Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America, 2003The elucidation of the interaction of the tumor and its microenvironment has increased surgeons' understanding of the biologic mechanisms mediating metastases formation. The ability to develop effective biologic therapies will depend on understanding the complex interactions among endothelial cells and tumor cells and on the cytokine cross-talk among ...

The management of colorectal liver metastases
Clinical Radiology, 2017Colorectal cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related death in Europe. Approximately one-quarter of patients have synchronous hepatic metastases and metachronous liver metastases occur in a further 30%. The scope of surgery in management of colorectal metastases has evolved to include selected patients with extra-hepatic disease for whom R0 ...

Resection of colorectal liver metastases
World Journal of Surgery, 1995AbstractFrom 1960 to 1992 a total of 1718 patients with liver metastases from colorectal carcinoma were recorded. Of these patients, 469 (27.3%) underwent hepatic resection, which was performed with curative intent in 434 patients (25.3%). Operative mortality in this group was 4.4%, being 1.8% (2 of 114) during the last 3 years.

Liver Metastases in Colorectal Cancer
American Society of Clinical Oncology Educational Book, 2016Resection of colorectal liver metastases is a treatment standard because patients experience long-term disease-free survival or are even cured after undergoing this procedure. Improved surgical techniques for liver resection in combination with downsizing liver metastases by chemotherapy, interventions to induce liver hypertrophy before resection, and

Treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases: A Review
Reviews on Recent Clinical Trials, 2009Liver metastases from colorectal cancer (CRC) have a poor prognosis. Despite recent advances in the management of advanced disease with chemotherapy, liver resection remains the only hope for cure for patients with colorectal liver metastases. Approximately 15% of patients with stage IV CRC referred to specialist centers have metastatic liver disease ...

Operative Management of Colorectal Liver Metastases
Seminars in Liver Disease, 2013In this review, the authors describe the management of patients with colorectal liver metastases in the era of effective chemotherapies and advanced interventional radiology. They give special attention to the surgical procedures that decrease the operative mortality and morbidity and produce clear margins. They discuss the best timing for chemotherapy,

Colorectal metastases to the liver
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1990The management of patients with hepatic metastases from colorectal carcinoma is controversial.
