Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Recent advances on new ultrasound techniques in diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases

open access: yes肿瘤影像学, 2017
Ultrasound is critical to the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases. New ultrasound techniques, such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound, fusion imaging, acoustic elastography and intraoperative ultrasound, make ultrasound an ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Comparison of gene mutations of liver metastases to the primary tumor in colorectal cancer: lessons from a small cohort

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
IntroductionUpfront molecular diagnostics are used to characterize genetic features of colorectal cancer, guiding therapy. Since colorectal cancer is usually surgically resected, these samples are used for such characterizations.

De novo transcriptomic subtyping of colorectal cancer liver metastases in the context of tumor heterogeneity

open access: yesGenome Medicine, 2021
Background Gene expression-based subtyping has the potential to form a new paradigm for stratified treatment of colorectal cancer. However, current frameworks are based on the transcriptomic profiles of primary tumors, and metastatic heterogeneity is a ...

Multifunctional Neutrophil Nanovesicles Induce Remodeling of Tumor Immune Microenvironment and Synergistic Multimodal Tumor Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the engineered RN@FDT for multimodal tumor therapy. a) Fabrication of FD&DOX/TFA‐loaded RGD‐NNV (RN@FDT) and the light‐triggered disassemble of RN@FDT. b) After internalized by tumor cells, RN@FDT are disintegrated under NIR‐II laser irradiation to boost PTT and induce cell apoptosis.

Simultaneous Colorectal and Liver Resections for Synchronous Colorectal Metastases [PDF]

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Surgery, 2006
Background: The surgical strategy for the treatment of colorectal cancer and synchronous hepatic metastases remains controversial. Many surgeons fear anastomotic leakage and intraperitoneal abscesses when performing a one-step procedure. They prefer a two-step procedure with a liver resection 2 to 3 months after

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.

The impact of pulmonary metastasectomy in patients with previously resected colorectal cancer liver metastases. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BACKGROUND:40-50% of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) will develop liver metastases (CRLM) during the course of the disease. One third of these patients will additionally develop pulmonary metastases. METHODS:137 consecutive patients with CRLM, were
