Dermal Tattoo Biosensors for Colorimetric Metabolite Detection

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2019
AbstractTattooing is a ubiquitous body modification involving the injection of ink and/or dye pigments into the dermis. Biosensors in the form of tattoos can be used to monitor metabolites in interstitial fluid. Here, minimally invasive, injectable dermal biosensors were developed for measuring pH, glucose, and albumin concentrations.

Using Nanomaterials in Colorimetric Toxin Detection

BioChip Journal, 2021
Exposure to toxins through contaminated food is a serious concern. For the detection of toxins in complex matrices, there are many analytical instrumentation-based methods; however, these approaches are generally expensive, laborious to perform, and require skilled technicians. Thus, they can only be utilized in centralized laboratories. To efficiently

A simple colorimetric detection of DNA methylation

The Analyst, 2012
In this work, we describe a simple colorimetric method to detect DNA methylation. Adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) with a small CpG region containing methylated cytosine (methylated APC) was synthesized and tested. Methylated APC was first captured and enriched by anti-5-methylcytosine monoclonal antibody conjugated magnetic microspheres (MMPs). Then a

Glyconanoparticles for the Colorimetric Detection of Cholera Toxin

Analytical Chemistry, 2007
Cholera continues to represent a major threat to human health, particularly in developing countries. Death can be readily avoided when medical treatment is rapidly administered. In order to provide a means of detecting the bacterially secreted toxin, we have developed a simple, yet rapid, bioassay for the cholera toxin.

Colorimetric Test Kit for Cu2+ Detection

Organic Letters, 2008
A coumarin-based colorimetric chemosensor 1 was designed and synthesized. It exhibits good sensitivity and selectivity for the copper cation over other cations such as Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Pb(2+), Co(2+), Fe(2+), Ni(2+), Ag(+), and alkali and alkaline earth metal cations both in aqueous solution and on paper-made test kits.

Selective colorimetric detection of carboxylic acids

The Analyst, 1980
A selective colour reaction for the detection of carboxylic acids has been developed. Acetic anhydride in the presence of ammonium carbonate, sodium carbonate and the sodium salts of acetic, formic, oxalic and pyruvic acids is used as the reagent. Amongst 39 acids, citric, isocitric, α-ketoglutaric and oxaloacetic acids can be detected selectively.

Colorimetric Biosensors for Bacterial Detection

2016
For thousands of years, humans have suffered from food poisoning as a result of microbial contamination. Pathogenic microbes can cause numerous illnesses, from minor skin infections to life-threatening diseases. Conventional detection techniques are often time-consuming, requiring trained personnel, sophisticated instruments, and long processing times,

Colorimetric detection of chemical warfare simulants

New Journal of Chemistry, 2005
Two simple chromogenic indicators (4) and (5), containing different supernucleophilic moieties, have been synthesized. Upon phosphorylation with two chemical warfare agent (CWA) simulants, a hypsochromic shift of approximately 50 nm is observed in an NaOH–DMSO solution.

Detection of Carbohydrates by Colorimetric Methods

2021
Classic colorimetric methods are still often used to detect the presence of carbohydrates. Several of these methods can distinguish between carbohydrate types and are also used for quantitative determinations. This chapter provides 18 protocols of different frequently used colorimetric methods, including their chemical reaction schemes.

Mild Colorimetric Detection of Sialic Acid

Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 2004
As part of a broader program focusing on the detection of colorless biomolecules in the visible region, a simple and mild procedure for the visual detection of the most abundant sialic acid at room temperature and neutral pH is reported. The role of the interaction of the sialic acid amide with boron in a readily synthesized boronic acid-based receptor
