Selected Topics in Column Generation [PDF]
Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition and column generation, devised for linear programs, is a success story in large-scale integer programming. We outline and relate the approaches, and survey mainly recent contributions, not yet found in textbooks. We emphasize the growing understanding of the dual point of view, which has brought considerable progress to the

Machine-Learning–Based Column Selection for Column Generation
Transportation Science, 2021Column generation (CG) is widely used for solving large-scale optimization problems. This article presents a new approach based on a machine learning (ML) technique to accelerate CG. This approach, called column selection, applies a learned model to select a subset of the variables (columns) generated at each iteration of CG. The goal is to reduce the

Polymer News, 2005
Recently, a new material has been showing up in the strangest places. In the news, this new material is reported as being used to “catch a comet by the tail” and it is being seen by the public in Discovery Centers around the country as the least dense material known to man.

A Column Generation Approach for Graph Coloring
INFORMS Journal on Computing, 1996We present a method for solving the independent set formulation of the graph coloring problem (where there is one variable for each independent set in the graph). We use a column generation method for implicit optimization of the linear program at each node of the branch-and-bound tree.
