SearchCol: Metaheuristic Search by Column Generation

2010
We propose a general framework for the combination of column generation (CG) with metaheuristics (MHs) aiming to solve combinatorial optimization problems amenable for decomposition approaches, "SearchCol". The combination of the two approaches is based on representing the solution of the problem as the selection of a subset of solutions of smaller ...

Generation and Testing of Immunoaffinity Columns

2005
Immunoaffinity purification is a highly specific, reversible technique that has the potential to be used for the one-step isolation of an analyte from many complex matrices. Application of an immunoaffinity column to isolate and concentrate an analyte may decrease the amount of solvent used, decrease the number of purification steps, shorten analysis ...

Column Generating Technique

2016
In this chapter, we shall discuss the most important computational technique of solving a large linear program. If a linear program has a very large number of columns (variables), perhaps too many to write down, we can use the column generating technique to obtain the optimum solution.

Secretary General’s Column

Chemistry International, 2016
Abstract As I sit down to write this column, IUPAC is about to tick off one biennium and begin another. Each time this happens the organisation renews itself as new people cycle into the positions and committees that plan, initiate, and undertake the work of the Union.

Generalized Reut’s Column

2019
This chapter discusses a generalized Reut’s column, one of the models in the nonconservative problems of structural stability, showing that a mechanical model of the column is realizable in laboratories. A method for realizing the Reut force with a constant line of action, and a generalized Reut force as well, is proposed.

Secretary General’s Column

Chemistry International -- Newsmagazine for IUPAC, 1997
In this month’s column I would like to comment on the 39th General Assembly, held in Geneva, Switzerland, 23–30 August 1997, and to report some of the major actions by the Bureau and Council. In my opinion, this was a very successful meeting, in which about 670 chemists participated, primarily in dozens of meetings of small groups—commissions ...
