Linker‐Engineered Dimeric Acceptors Afford Efficient Organic Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution via Tailored Nanomorphology for Long‐Lived Charge Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a new series of monomeric (MY) and dimeric acceptors incorporating unfused (DY1) and fused (DY2) linkers, which establish a controlled self‐aggregation trend of MY > DY2 > DY1. The DY2‐based system yields a bulk‐heterojunction nanoparticle morphology that appears to balance phase separation and interfacial accessibility, consistent with ...

An Experimental Study on the Performance and Emissions of an 8% Water-in-Diesel Emulsion Stabilized by a Hydrophilic Surfactant Blend

open access: yesEnergies
Diesel engines are known for their excellent efficiency and are therefore used in a variety of applications. However, they are also one of the main sources of hazardous emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and smoke. Water-in-Diesel Emulsion (WiDE) is

High Center‐of‐Mass, Multi‐Legged Soft Robots Powered by Geometrically Encoded Liquid Crystal Elastomer Arc Appendages

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by the octopus and the golden wheel spider, soft robots with liquid crystal elastomer arc fibers as appendages are fabricated to transcend surface constraints through an elevated center of mass and minimal contact footprints. By leveraging curvature‐encoded deformation‐recovery cycles, these robots exhibit contractile, torsional, and flexural ...

Computational studies on HCCI engines. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Emission legislation is changing in an effort to reduce exhaust emissions from the IC engines. Research and development has been focused on improving both spark-ignition and compression ignition engines to make them more efficient.

Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Semi-Industrial Retrofit for Tangentially Fired Boilers with Slag-Tap Technology

open access: yesEnergies
High-alkali Zhundong coal presents significant challenges for power generation, due to its propensity for fouling and slagging. This study investigates a retrofit of a 300 MW tangentially fired boiler with the integration of a slag-tap chamber to improve

The Myth of the High-Efficiency External-Combustion Stirling Engine [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering, 2015
The reported discrepancy between theory and experiment for external combustion Stirling engines is explained by the addition of thermal resistance of the combustion gasses to the standard Carnot model. In these cases, the Stirling engine ideal efficiency is not as is normally reported equal to the Carnot cycle efficiency but is significantly lower.

Thermal Radiation Emission From 3D Graphene Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional graphene networks are demonstrated as exceptional broadband thermal emitters, exhibiting high‐intensity, spectrally homogeneous emission and strong mechanical flexibility compared to conventional emitters like silicon carbide.

Abnormal combustion - methanol versus gasoline

open access: yes, 1988
Includes bibliographical references. The maximum efficiency of conventional gasoline engines is largely determined by the compression ratio, and this is limited by the onset of kno8k. The maximum cylinder size is similarly constrained.

Flow and combustion in disc and pent-roof SI engines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Reported in this thesis is a study of combustion in a disc-shaped combustion chamber spark ignition engine, and in-cylinder flow and combustion in an idealised pent-roof spark ignition engine. Both engines were skip fired, to remove residuals and ensure

Low Temperature Combustion Demonstrator for High Efficiency Clean Combustion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The project which extended from November 2005 to May of 2010 demonstrated the application of Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) with engine out NOx levels of 0.2 g/bhp-hr throughout the program target load of 12.6bar BMEP. The project showed that the range of loads could be extended to 16.5bar BMEP, therefore matching the reference lug line of the base ...
