Prediction Model for Transient NOx Emission of Diesel Engine Based on CNN-LSTM Network

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In order to address the challenge of accurately predicting nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission from diesel engines in transient operation using traditional neural network models, this study proposes a NOx emission forecasting model based on a hybrid neural ...

Interaction of MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode With KF‐AlF3‐Al2O3 at 800°C During Laboratory Scale Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Simultaneous LIF and BOS investigation of an impact of a gaseous jet on an oil film under engine relevant conditions

open access: yesAutomotive and Engine Technology
Internal combustion engines are a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions. Sustainable fuels are seen as having great potential to significantly reduce these emissions. Hydrogen has the potential to significantly reduce local emissions.

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Optical diagnostics of fuel induced soot formation: color ratio pyrometry of in-cylinder soot in a DISI engine

open access: yesAutomotive and Engine Technology
The rapid diversification of gasoline-derived fuels demands a deep understanding of in-cylinder soot formation mechanisms, especially under the transient and low-temperature conditions characteristic of cold-start operation.

A concise review of glycerol derivatives for use as fuel additives

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Due to renewable fuel mandates worldwide, the increase in biodiesel production has caused an oversupply of low-cost glycerol on the markets, which can negatively affect the sustainability of the biodiesel industry as a whole.
