COMET: monitoring mitochondrial shock in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine

open access: yesAnesthesiology and Perioperative Science
Mitochondria, as the cellular end-users of oxygen and responsible for approximately 98% of total body oxygen consumption, play a significant role in the development of organ dysfunction during shock.

Local Elites in Chile's Pisco Valley: Dispossession, Legal Mobilisation and Intertwined Citizenship

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In countries in the Global South, citizenship is often closely tied to access to water and land ownership. In Latin America, the literature has primarily explored social mobilisation and identity reconfiguration in response to development‐driven processes of land and water dispossession affecting peasants, rural and Indigenous communities ...

An interphase actin wave promotes mitochondrial content mixing and organelle homeostasis

open access: yesNature Communications
Across the cell cycle, mitochondrial dynamics are regulated by a cycling wave of actin polymerization/depolymerization. In metaphase, this wave induces actin comet tails on mitochondria that propel these organelles to drive spatial mixing, resulting in ...

Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.

The Use of Survival Dose-Rate Dependencies as Theoretical Discrimination Criteria for Dynamic Radiobiological Models

open access: yesDose-Response
Introduction Cell repair dynamics are crucial in optimizing anti-cancer therapies. Various assays (eg, comet assay and γ-H2AX) assess post-radiation repair kinetics, but interpreting such data is challenging and model-based data analyses are required ...

Alternation of must, have to, and need to in English as a lingua franca

open access: yesWorld Englishes, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explores the grammatical variability of modal auxiliary verbs in English as a lingua franca. Focusing on the ongoing change must, have to, and need to, this research utilizes two spoken corpora: the Vienna–Oxford International Corpus of English (VOICE) and the Asian Corpus of English (ACE).

Origin and Dynamical Evolution of Comets and their Reservoirs

open access: yes, 2005
This text was originally written to accompany a series of lectures that I gave at the `35th Saas-Fee advanced course' in Switzerland and at the Institute for Astronomy of the University of Hawaii. It reviews my current understanding of the dynamics of comets and of the origin and primordial sculpting of their reservoirs.

Trabecular bone ontogeny of the human talus

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 7, Page 1837-1874, July 2026.
Abstract Studies of trabecular ontogeny may provide insight into the factors that drive healthy bone development. There is a growing understanding of how the juvenile skeleton responds to these influences; however, gaps in our knowledge remain. This study aims to identify ontogenetic trabecular patterns and regional changes during development within ...

Composition/Structure/Dynamics of comet and planetary satellite atmospheres

open access: yes, 1995
This research program addresses two cases of tenuous planetary atmospheres: comets and Io. The comet atmospheric research seeks to analyze a set of spatial profiles of CN in comet Halley taken in a 7.4-day period in April 1986; to apply a new dust coma ...
