Rotational dynamics of subsolar sublimating triaxial comets

Planetary and Space Science, 2004
Abstract A model with subsolar water sublimation on a triaxial, ellipsoidal comet nucleus is presented for the calculation of reactive torques. The resulting differential equations describing the comet's rotation are then Hamiltonian, and gravity-gradients are trivial to include.

A dynamical study on extrasolar comets

2017
Since the detection of absorption features in spectra of beta Pictoris varying on short time scales it is known that comets exist in other stellar systems. We investigate the dynamics of comets in two differently build systems (HD 10180 and HIP 14810).

The dynamical lifetime of comet P/Halley

1988
Using an extension of Opik’s techniques the stability of the orbit of Halley’s comet under close encounters with the planets is investigated, and it is found that the orbital changes due to such encounters expected over a long time-base are of the same order as the effects of more distant planetary perturbations and non-gravitational effects.

Dynamical Friction Induces Perturbations on Oort Cloud Comets

1993
The aphelia distribution of Oort cloud comets is recognized to be strongly modulated by tidal galactic perturbations. However, near 15% of nonrandomness in the aphelia distribution in galactic latitudes is not explained by this type of interaction between the Galaxy and the solar system.

On the Chaotic Dynamics of Comet 1P/Halley

Summary: The comet Halley presents a very short Lyapunov time. It is of the order of just one orbital period. However, it does not show any strong chaotic radial characteristic in a timescale of tens of orbital periods. That can be interpreted as a confined chaotic motion.
