Fabry's Comet and Barnard's Comet [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1886
NOT having seen any mention of the rapid apparent growth of the tail of Fabry's comet, probably some of your readers are not aware to how great a length it extended. On April 26 occurred the first fine night after a very unusual series of overcast ones, and about 14h. G.M.T. I was surprised to see the tail reaching up to, or at least to within 1° of δ,

Glutamine Deprivation Triggers Tribbles Homolog 3 Dependent G‐Quadruplex Resolution to Maintain DNA Repair and Tumor Survival

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glutamine deprivation triggers transient DNA damage yet activates adaptive repair in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. We identify TRIB3 as a stress‐induced nuclear scaffold that associates with DDX5 and G‐quadruplex DNA atBRCA1 andRAD51AP1 promoters. TRIB3 loss increases G4 accumulation, suppresses HR gene transcription, elevates γ‐H2A.X, and sensitizes

EDTA‐Functionalized Nanoscale Metal–Organic Framework for Onco‐Cardiology via Radiochemotherapy Synergy and Spatiotemporally Matched Iron Chelation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Doxorubicin (DOX)‐induced cardiotoxicity is a major limitation to its broader clinical application, while cardioprotective interventions often risk reducing the anticancer efficacy of DOX. To address these challenges, this work constructs an EDTA‐functionalized metal–organic framework that enhances tumor therapy and provides efficient cardioprotection ...

Engineered Bacteria‐Vesicle Delivered Lactate Reprogramming Boosts Tumor Radiosensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We engineered a bacterial‐vesicular dual‐delivery platform that targets LOx to colorectal tumors, enabling lactate clearance, immune microenvironment remodeling, and microbiota modulation. This microbe–metabolism synergistic strategy effectively sensitizes colorectal cancer to radiotherapy, offering a promising approach to overcome radioresistance ...

Alternative Policy Designs to Help Farmers Select Profitable Conservation Practices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Voluntary private carbon initiatives (VPCIs) promote the implementation of agricultural conservation practices that mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) via financial incentives to participating farmers. Simultaneously, an array of public policies supports the adoption of conservation practices through technical and financial ...

Thermal Evolution of the Nucleus of the Comet 67P for 120 Years: Numerical Simulations

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2018
The purpose of this paper is to estimate to what temperatures and to what depth the outer layers of the cometary nuclei are heated for several dozen revolutions around the Sun, and what changes in the composition of the volatiles occur in this case. This

3D investigation and modeling of the geometric effects on porosity in packed beds

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract In porous beds, physical boundaries restrict particle arrangement, leading to inhomogeneous porosity. This paper reports on the porosity profiles that are the result of geometric effects on monodisperse packed beds in cylindrical and cubic arrangements. Special focus is given to the influence of edges and corners in cubic geometries.

Photoluminescence and Cathodoluminescence of the Solid Cometary Substance

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2019
We have proposed that solar ultraviolet and corpuscular radiations may excite photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence of the solid cometary substance including mineral halos of comets.

Crater Observing Bioinspired Rolling Articulator (COBRA)

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Crater Observing Bio‐inspired Rolling Articulator (COBRA) is a modular, snake‐inspired robot that addresses the mobility challenges of extraterrestrial exploration sites such as Shackleton Crater. Incorporating snake‐like gaits and tumbling locomotion, COBRA navigates both uneven surfaces and steep crater walls.

“Stars Falling to Earth”—Mental Models of Comets and Meteors

open access: yesEducation Sciences
The present study examines students’ conceptions of comets and meteors using qualitative research methods. A total of 35 semi-structured interviews were conducted with students in grades 7 and 9 in Germany, aiming to gain a richer understanding of how ...
