Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Effect of Dietary Yeast Culture on Milk Yield, Composition, and Component Yields at Commercial Dairies

open access: yesThe Professional Animal Scientist, 1997
A field trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary yeast culture on milk yield, composition, and component yields at 11 commercial dairies in Wisconsin. Rolling herd averages ranged from 10,000 to 12,800 kg per cow. Yeast culture was added to total mixed rations to allow an average daily intake of 57 g over two 30-d Dairy Herd Improvement ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

MySTOCKS: Multi-Modal Yield eSTimation System of in-prOmotion Commercial Key-ProductS

open access: yesComputation
In recent years, Out-of-Stock (OOS) occurrences have posed a persistent challenge for both retailers and manufacturers. In the context of grocery retail, an OOS event represents a situation where customers are unable to locate a specific product when ...

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

University of Florida Potato Variety Trial Program— ‘Elkton’ Commercial Evaluation

open access: yesEDIS, 2014
The ‘Elkton’ chipping potato variety was tested on a commercial scale at two growers’ farms in Florida during the 2011 season. The average yield of ‘Elkton’ in the commercial trials ranged between 295 and 324 cwt/ac, an average of 11 percent higher than

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Effects of Dietary Antibiotic Treatment on Yield of Commercial Broilers

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1989
Abstract Two studies were conducted in which chickens of a commercial broiler strain were fed nutritionally adequate diets fortified with either 27.5 ppm of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) or 11 ppm virgmiamycin for a 49-day feeding period.
