ALDOA Promotes Glycolysis and NLRP3/GSDMD Pyroptosis to Accelerate ALS Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Glycolytic dysregulation is implicated in disease progression, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how Aldolase A (ALDOA) drives ALS progression through glycolysis‐mediated motor neuron pyroptosis.

Ion-trap quantum computing in the presence of cooling

open access: yes, 2003
This paper discusses ways to implement two-qubit gate operations for quantum computing with cold trapped ions within one step. The proposed scheme is widely robust against parameter fluctuations and its simplicity might help to increase the number of ...

Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...

Combinations of compound cold medicines should be used with caution: a case series

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundCompound cold medicines contain multiple ingredients and are widely used to alleviate discomfort caused by viral infections. It is generally believed that compound cold medicines rarely cause serious adverse reactions; therefore, patients do ...

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Brit Wit: A Slang Quiz [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The wit and wisdom of the common people are preserved in slang words and phrases which can sometimes be a little baffling or require insider knowledge, as when a Cockney says, I wouldn\u27t like to be a pawnbroker\u27s sign on a night like this.

Correlation between plasmacytoid dendritic cell activation and suppression of subjective physical symptoms following Lactobacillus paragasseri SBT2055 ingestion: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group comparative study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
ObjectiveThis study examined the relationship between physical condition and plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) activation in healthy adults who ingested Lactobacillus paragasseri SBT2055 (LG2055).MethodsThis randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled ...

Representation Learning for cold-start recommendation

open access: yes, 2014
A standard approach to Collaborative Filtering (CF), i.e. prediction of user ratings on items, relies on Matrix Factorization techniques. Representations for both users and items are computed from the observed ratings and used for prediction ...
