The Effect of CAP Policy Incentives for the Environmental and Economic Performance of Cereal Farms in South-Central Bulgaria

open access: yesBulletin of University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca: Agriculture, 2020
This paper aims to assess the effects of three mechanisms of the Common Agricultural Policy incentivizing environmentally friendly farming practices, on a model cereal farm’s environmental and economic performance. Based on linear goal programming method

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Proactive Face of Cybersecurity: Certification. Legislation and Market Response from the Perspective of ITSEF

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology
The first European Cybersecurity Certification Scheme according to the Common Criteria (EUCC) specifies a number of additional requirements for Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to be technically competent to provide evaluation and certification ...

A rapid modeling method and accuracy criteria for common-cause failures in Risk Monitor PSA model

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2021
In the development of a Risk Monitor probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) model from the basic PSA model of a nuclear power plant, the modeling of common-cause failure (CCF) is very important.

A Note on High Robustness Requirements for Separation Kernels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The development of a protection profile for high-robustness separation kernels requires explicit modifications of several Common Criteria requirements as well as extrapolation from existing (e.g., medium assurance) guidance and decisions.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Some considerations on common noise criteria

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2015
Until now the ideal noisedescriptor has not been invented. The purpose of this paper is to draw the attention of the user to some shortcomings of common noise criteria in extreme circumstances. Comments are made on the A-weighted sound pressure level L_A,

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
