In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Impact of nonlinearity on changing the a priori of trace gas profile estimates from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2008
Non-linear maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of atmospheric profiles from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) contains a priori information that may vary geographically, which is a confounding factor in the analysis and physical ...

Haematological Emergencies

open access: yesProceedings of Singapore Healthcare, 2014
In a hospital setting, it is common to encounter certain haematological emergencies irrespective of whether or not the patient has an underlying haematological condition or if the hospital has a well-established haematology service.

Iron supplementation in Switzerland – a bi-national, descriptive, observational study

open access: yesSwiss Medical Weekly, 2017
BACKGROUND Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional disorder in the world, and it is the only common nutrient deficiency in industrialised nations. It is thought to be the most common cause of anaemia.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Pirtobrutinib monotherapy in Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor-intolerant patients with B-cell malignancies: results of the phase I/II BRUIN trial

open access: yesHaematologica
Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKi) have transformed the treatment of B-cell malignancies, but intolerance has often led to their discontinuation. The phase 1/2 BRUIN study evaluated pirtobrutinib, a highly selective non-covalent (reversible) BTKi,

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Characterizing Common Priors in the Form of Posteriors

open access: yesJournal of Economic Theory, 2000
Roughly speaking, the Common Prior Assumption (CPA) means that rational agents in models with asymmetric information have a common prior. \textit{R. J. Aumann} [Ann. Stat. 4, 1236-1239 (1976; Zbl 0379.62003)] proved that if CPA holds then agents cannot agree to disagree.

Noninformative Priors for the Common Intraclass Correlation Coefficient [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications for Statistical Applications and Methods, 2011
In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the common intraclass correlation coefficient when independent samples drawn from multivariate normal populations. We derive the first and second order matching priors. We reveal that the second order matching prior dose not match alternative coverage probabilities up to the second order and is ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
