Torque ripple reduction technique with commutation time control for brushless DC motor
This paper proposes the reduction technique of commutation torque ripple in brushless DC motor drive. The proposed method modulates the current slope of the incoming phase and the outgoing phase in commutation interval respectively. These slopes can be modulated by using specific duty ratio during commutation.

The control of brushless dc motors (BLDCMs) is similar to dc motors during the noncommutation interval. However, three phases are involved in electromechanical energy conversion during the commutation interval, making the control of the BLDCM similar to a three-phase ac motor during the commutation interval.

Analysis of torque ripple in BLDC motor with commutation time
ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. No.01TH8570), 2002Torque ripple generated in the commutation period is the main drawback of the brushless DC (BLDC) motor, which deteriorates its precision. Many methods to solve this problem have been studied. In many control methods, torque ripple reduction was considered at the point of current control, which means that if current can be controlled properly, the BLDC

Commutation torque ripple reduction for brushless DC motors with commutation time shortened
2017 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC), 2017A control strategy with commutation time shortened is proposed to reduce the commutation torque ripple for brushless DC motor. The shorter commutation time favors the crossing-zero detection of back electromotive force in occasion of sensorless control, and meanwhile enhances the motor operation performance. In this paper, the theoretical background on

Simple Commutation Torque Ripple Reduction Using PWM With Compensation Voltage
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2020In this article, a combination of a two- and three-phase switching method to reduce switching loss is presented. In the conduction region, the conventional two-phase switching topology is used to reduce switching loss. On the other hand, in the short commutation region, the proposed modified three-phase switching strategy that incorporates a voltage ...

A balanced commutator for switched reluctance motors to reduce torque ripple
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 1992A method of computing the reference currents for current tracking feedback control, called a balanced commutator, is presented. For a given motor, this commutator reduces the peaks and the rates of change of the reference currents. Although primarily intended for lower-speed direct-drive applications, the commutator design allows accurate current ...

Reduction of commutation torque ripple in a brushless DC motor drive
2008 IEEE 2nd International Power and Energy Conference, 2008This paper describes the reduction in torque ripple due to phase commutation of brushless dc motors. With two-phase 120deg electrical conduction for the inverter connected to the conventional three-phase BLDC machine, the commutation torque ripple occurs at every 60 electrical degrees when a change over from one phase to another occurs.
