Commutation Torque Ripple Reduction of Brushless DC Motor in Braking Operation
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2018In this paper, the commutation torque ripple is studied in the brushless DC motor (BLDCM) braking operation. As the phase currents flow in the reversed directions in the braking operation, the current circuits in the braking operation are different from those in the motor operation. For this reason, it is found that the commutation torque ripple can be

In conventional direct torque controlled (DTC) permanent magnet synchronous motor drive, there is usually undesired torque and flux ripple. The existing literature have proposed some methods to reduce torque and flux ripple by optimizing the duty ratio of the active vector. However, these methods are usually complicated and parameter dependent.

This paper presents a three-phase pulsewidth modulation (PWM) technique for brushless dc motor (BLDCM) drives to reduce the commutation torque ripple. As compared to previous approaches, the presented technique does not require any torque observer and calculation of commutation time which may be sensitive to motor parameters and may require more ...

Analysis of torque ripple due to phase commutation in brushless DC machines
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1992An original analytical study is developed concerning the torque undulation due to phase commutation on brushless DC motors. The results indicate that the relative ripple is independent of current, varies with speed, and may reach 50% of the average torque.

The control of brushless dc motors (BLDCMs) is similar to dc motors during the noncommutation interval. However, three phases are involved in electromechanical energy conversion during the commutation interval, making the control of the BLDCM similar to a three-phase ac motor during the commutation interval.

Simple Commutation Torque Ripple Reduction Using PWM With Compensation Voltage
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2020In this article, a combination of a two- and three-phase switching method to reduce switching loss is presented. In the conduction region, the conventional two-phase switching topology is used to reduce switching loss. On the other hand, in the short commutation region, the proposed modified three-phase switching strategy that incorporates a voltage ...

Commutation torque ripple reduction for brushless DC motors with commutation time shortened
2017 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC), 2017A control strategy with commutation time shortened is proposed to reduce the commutation torque ripple for brushless DC motor. The shorter commutation time favors the crossing-zero detection of back electromotive force in occasion of sensorless control, and meanwhile enhances the motor operation performance. In this paper, the theoretical background on
