Engineering Compacted Graphite Iron Castings

2022
Abstract Compacted graphite iron (GCI) is a cast iron grade that is engineered through graphite morphology modifications to achieve a combination of thermal and mechanical properties that are in between those of flake graphite iron and ductile iron.

High strength high toughness compacted graphite cast iron

Materials Science and Technology, 1995
AbstractIn the present paper, heat treatments were used to obtain upper and lower bainitic compacted graphite cast irons. The effects of the percentage of compacted graphite, the matrix structure, and the specimen thickness on the mechanical properties, fracture toughness, and fatigue crack growth rate of the irons were evaluated.

Fracture mechanics behaviour of austenitic compacted graphite cast iron

Journal of Materials Science, 1996
The fracture mechanics behaviour of high-nickel austenitic compacted graphite cast iron was studied and the effects of graphite morphology, alloying elements and specimen thickness on the mechanical properties, plane stress fracture toughness, and fatigue crack growth rate were evaluated. It was found that the graphite morphology, i.e.

OXYGEN POTENTIAL VALUES TO PRODUCE COMPACTED GRAPHITE CAST IRON

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 2008
AbstractCompacted graphite cast iron (CGI) is a potential alternative to lightweight alloys. It is accepted that CGI can effectively reduce the automobile total weight by virtue of its high strength and its high thermal conductivity giving an opportunity to designers to design components with thinner sections. However, the successful casting process to

Welding consumable research for compacted graphite cast iron

Journal of Materials Engineering, 1991
Research has developed a new consumable material for gas welding of compacted graphite (CG) cast iron. The effects of C, Si, RE (rare earth), Ti, Al and weld cooling rate on graphite and matrix structure of compacted graphite cast iron welds have been studied. The optimum C, Si, RE and Ti contents of the weld metal were determined.

Metallographic structure of bainitic compacted graphite cast irons

Materials Characterization, 1991
Abstract The microstructural characteristics of austempered unalloyed compacted graphite cast irons have been studied. The material was subjected to a variety of bainitic treatments based on four different combinations of austenitizing and austempering temperatures, plus various periods of time at the temper temperature.

Cast Iron: Compacted Graphite

2016
In this entry, a review of research papers is presented that highlights the formation of a microstructure and the properties of compacted graphite cast iron (CGI) castings. The entry presents the morphology of compacted graphite compared to flake graphite and spheroidal (nodular) graphite.
