On the performance of companding techniques for DMT optical links

Optics Communications, 2022
Abstract In this paper the performance of Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) optical links using nonlinear companding schemes for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction is investigated. First, it is developed an analytical expression to evaluate the total distortion at the demodulation stage introduced by the expansion process, and also to estimate the ...

A Companding Technique for PAPR Reduction of OFDM Systems

2006 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications, 2006
A companding technique using the hyperbolic tangent transform is proposed for reducing the peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. This technique is practical and can be implemented easily in integrated circuit design.

Comparision between SLM-companding and precoding-companding techniques in OFDM systems

2016 International Conference on Circuit, Power and Computing Technologies (ICCPCT), 2016
OFDM is a multicarrier modulation technique which is used in communication systems like Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN), Wi-Max, DVB-T etc for the high rate transmission over wireless radio channels.

"Noninvasive" techniques for syllabic companding in signal processors

ISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2002
Two novel methods are described for syllabic companding in signal processors which make state variable updating unnecessary, for piecewise constant input and output gains. Measurements and simulations are used as confirmation of the validity of the proposed techniques.

Log-linear companding—A digital companding technique

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1969
A new method of near-logarithmic companding is proposed. The method consists of first uniformly quantizing each sample and then processing the resulting binary number digitally. This is in contrast to the usual scheme of first compressing the input and then uniformly quantizing it. The method presented here is extremely simple to implement and requires

Adaptive Companding as a PAPR Reduction Technique of an OFDM Signal

Journal of Communications, 2012
In this paper, a new adaptive PAPR reduction scheme is proposed by which the PAPR of the OFDM signal can be reduced to keep the value lower than a predefined threshold level. A conventional companding is used as a technique to reduce the PAPR of the OFDM signal.

Nonlinear companding transform technique for reducing PAPR of ODFM signals

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2012
In this paper a novel nonlinear companding transform (NCT) scheme based on the inverse hyperbolic sine function is proposed for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. By introducing the variable companding parameters and an inflexion point in the companding function, it enables more

Reversible watermarking method based on adaptive thresholding and companding technique

International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 2011
Embedding and extraction of secret information as well as the restoration of the original un-watermarked image are highly desirable in sensitive applications such as military, medical, and law enforcement imaging. This paper presents a novel reversible watermarking approach for digital images using integer-to-integer wavelet transform, companding ...
