Clinical, histological, and serological predictors of renal function loss in lupus nephritis.

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Kidney survival is the ultimate goal in lupus nephritis (LN) management, but long‐term predictors remain inadequately studied, requiring long‐term follow‐up. This study aimed to identify baseline and early longitudinal predictors of kidney survival in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership LN longitudinal cohort.

Specific Evolution and Gene Family Expansion of Complement 3 and Regulatory Factor H in Fish

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
The complement system comprises a large family of plasma proteins that play a central role in innate and adaptive immunity. To better understand the evolution of the complement system in vertebrates and the contribution of complement to fish immunity ...

Die Insuffizienz der intraabdominellen Infektabwehr bei der eitrigen Peritonitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Despite a high concentration of serum proteins and intact phagocytes peritonitis exudates contain a large number of viable, pathogenic bacteria. The reason for this biological paradox is unknown.

Mutations in complement C3 from aHUS patients [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2015
In this issue of Blood, Schramm et al demonstrate that the majority of mutations in complement C3 identified in atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) patients cause dysregulation in the alternative pathway of complement.

Defining the Complement Biomarker Profile of C3 Glomerulopathy [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2014
C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) applies to a group of renal diseases defined by a specific renal biopsy finding: a dominant pattern of C3 fragment deposition on immunofluorescence. The primary pathogenic mechanism involves abnormal control of the alternative complement pathway, although a full description of the disease spectrum remains to be determined.

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

FHR-1 binds to C-reactive protein and enhances rather than inhibits complement activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Factor H (FH)-related protein 1 (FHR-1) is one of the five human factor H-related proteins, which share sequence and structural homology with the alternative pathway complement inhibitor FH.

Selective and Precise Editing of Digital Polymers Through Parallel or Series Toehold‐Mediated Strand Displacement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A sequence‐encoded supramolecular construct containing two accessible toeholds is developed herein for enabling multiple editing operations. By introducing specific input strands, it is possible to selectively erase or rewrite digital content through parallel or series toehold‐mediated strand displacement (PTMSD or STMSD).

Associations of Serum Complement Biomarkers With Adverse Clinical Outcomes Among Patients With Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The complement system plays a crucial role in immune regulation and inflammatory response and is believed to be involved in the onset and progression of ischemic stroke.

Contribution of complement activation pathways to neuropathology differs among mouse models of Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Complement proteins and activation products have been found associated with neuropathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recently, a C5a receptor antagonist was shown to suppress neuropathology in two murine models of AD, Tg2576 and
